I went to see House of Flying Daggers this afternoon. While it was visually beautiful and the martial arts was brilliant, the story played a bit too much on the melodramatic side for my liking. Much like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, it seemed to have way too much of a western influence, focussing on the love aspect and not the integral aspect of honour found in truly Asian films. I thought that Hero was a much better film all around.

Although Takeshi Kaneshiro and Ziyi Zhang are stunningly beautiful and the costumes were amazing (do you think one could get away with wearing that stuff everyday?), it just didn't do it for me. I would give it 2 1/2 out of five.
